Hoping to build on their biggest win of the season last week over second place FC Barcelona, Shane Larkin and Anadolu Efes couldn’t duplicate the feat on Tuesday against Real Madrid.

A hotly contested game came down to the wire, but after leading by as much as nine in the first half, Efes fell behind in the third quarter and trailed for the duration of the fourth, resulting in a 65-73 loss. Efes falls to 8-9 in EuroLeague play as Real Madrid moved to 12-5. holding on to second place.

Efes will have some time to think about the tough loss as they won’t be back in EL action again until next Friday, January 8 when they head to Villeurbanne, France to take on ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:45 pm. EST.

In the meantime, Efes will wrap up the Turkish Super League regular season with games on the road Saturday, January 2 against Darussfaka and Tuesday, January 5 at Gaziantep.
